Organized by the American Philatelic Society (APS) and recently expanded to include two more major groups, the largest stamp show south of the border now has a new name.
APS members voted for the “Great American Stamp Show” as the top choice of five names to replace the society’s former StampShow.
“A new era brings a new name,” said APS Executive Director Scott English, whose contract with that society was recently extended until 2021. “Over the last two years, we’ve worked and succeeded at making this annual show one of the best reasons to be a collector.”
Both the American Topical Association (ATA) and American First Day Cover Society (AFDCS) now hold their annual conventions – the National Topical Stamp Show and Americover, respectively – in conjunction with the annual APS show.
With three convening societies, the first Great American Stamp Show will be held in Hartford, Conn., on Aug. 20-23, 2020.
In 2021, The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada is also expected to “have a major presence” at the Great American Stamp Show as part of an ongoing partnership between the two societies.
