A memorial service for Anthony (Tony) Shaman, the long-time editor of The Canadian Philatelist, will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home in Kitchener, Ont., with a reception to follow.
Tony passed away on June 25 in Calgary at the age of 89. The service will also be livestreamed via the funeral home’s website for those unable to attend in person.
A Fellow and honorary life member of The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC), Tony edited The Canadian Philatelist for 17 years and contributed hundreds of articles to leading philatelic publications in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. He was also a long-time columnist with Canadian Stamp News and an active member of the K-W Philatelic Society.
Tony is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose (née Lewang), daughter Deborah (Patrick), son Kenneth (Leora), daughter-in-law Tara, and three grandchildren, Wren, Harper, and Sanna. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Petereit and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Thomas and his brother Simon.
In retirement, Tony pursued his love of philately, writing, music, and volunteerism. He spent decades in the Kitchener-Waterloo area before relocating to Calgary to be closer to family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cardiac Fitness Association in Breslau, Ont. Cards will be available at the funeral home.
