Worldwide stamps highlight Garden City sale

Garden City Philatelic Auctions will hold its fifth public auction on Feb. 14, 2026, offering a wide-ranging sale that spans classic material, specialized collections and modern rarities from around the world.

Sale No. 5 will be conducted entirely online and will feature more than 700 lots of worldwide stamps, sets, collections and postal history, with bidding opening at 8 a.m. Pacific time (11 a.m. Eastern). All lots, with the exception of one noted grouping, will be offered unreserved with opening bids of $50.

Among the highlights is an extensive collection of Iceland stamps presented in more than 50 lots, alongside a specialized holding of early Ireland stamps offered across more than 30 lots. Great Britain is also strongly represented, with more than 100 lots of early stamps and postal history, including a group of Mulready and Penny Black covers. One of the more unusual items in that section is a Penny Black cover forwarded from Venezuela.

The sale also features a strong showing of 20th-century material, including a specialized collection of mint and used 1935 King George V Silver Jubilee varieties in more than 50 lots, as well as several mint never hinged pre-Second World War Italian sets and part sets.

Collectors of modern China will find a notable selection of People’s Republic of China issues, with more than 35 lots of quality mint never hinged material. Among the featured items is Lot 118, a 1968 Statement About Cultural Revolution strip of five, mint never hinged, with sheet margin at left. Described as fresh, never folded and very fine, the strip is regarded as especially rare in such pristine condition.

Garden City Philatelic Auctions auction manager Stéphane Cloutier said the diversity of material reflects the firm’s goal of offering something of interest to collectors across a wide range of specialties.

“Our fifth sale brings together classic postal history, specialized European collections and sought-after modern material,” Cloutier said. “It’s a well-balanced offering that should appeal to both traditional collectors and those looking for scarcer modern issues.”

The auction will be conducted in Canadian dollars and carries a buyer’s fee of 17 per cent. Bidders may place advance bids by email, telephone or through StampAuctionNetwork, which is also recommended for live online bidding during the sale via the SAN AutoHammer system. No in-person floor bidding will be offered.

Garden City Philatelic Auctions is already preparing its next two public sales, scheduled for spring 2026, and is accepting consignments.
