R. Maresch & Son named official CAPEX 22 auctioneer

The R. Maresch & Son auction firm has been named the official auctioneer of CAPEX 22, the world’s first One-Frame Stamp Championship, coming to Toronto on June 9-12, 2022.

The show will be Canada’s first international exhibition in more than a quarter-century and its fifth international show since 1951. In addition to the World One-Frame Stamp Championship, the show will include a 84-booth bourse, society meetings, seminars and an auction.

“We are pleased that R. Maresch & Son will be continuing their 71-year support of CAPEX international exhibitions in Canada,” said David McLaughlin, the CAPEX 22 chair. “Three generations of the Maresch family have helped Canadian and international collectors build their collections for almost a century now since Dr. Richard A. R. Maresch became a stamp dealer in Vienna in 1924.”

Peter Maresch, the owner of R. Maresch & Son, welcomed the opportunity to continue a long-running family tradition.

“R. Maresch & Son held an auction at CAPEX 78, and were the official auctioneer at CAPEX 87 and CAPEX 96,” he said, adding his firm “is the oldest continually operating stamp auction firm and dealer in Canada, and we look forward to CAPEX 22.”

“My grandfather, Dr. Richard A. R. Maresch, came to Canada in 1938 and opened a stamp shop in downtown Toronto in 1942, with our first public auction held on Oct. 26, 1963.”

Since 2017, the auction house has been headquartered in Aurora, Ont., about 30 minutes north of downtown Toronto.
