‘Organized Philately’ returns to Red Deer

After nearly 60 people attended the Alberta Wide Stamp Gathering in Red Deer this May, collectors in and around the central Alberta city are expected to join together and form a club before the year ends.

Organized by the Edmonton Stamp Club, the Calgary Philatelic Society and the Lethbridge Philatelic Society, the May 25 show was attended by collectors from throughout the region. Some of them expressed interest in starting a club in Red Deer, which has a population of more than 100,000 people.

About a dozen people at the recent show signed expressions of interest to support the formation of a new club (the now-defunct Red Deer Stamp Club was originally founded in September 1964 but folded about 20 years ago).

If anyone in or near Red Deer, Alta., is interested in forming a stamp club, contact local collector Peter Fleck at 403-348-9916.
