More clubs transitioning to online meetings, events

Two Toronto-area clubs are the latest philatelic groups in Canada to pivot towards online meetings and events.

Following a virtual board of directors meeting on May 26, the West Toronto Stamp Club (WTSC) will host its first online club meeting via Zoom on June 16 at 7:30 p.m. At the board meeting, the club’s directors decided how “to move forward and to adapt positively” during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to WTSC President Sid Mensinga.

“As you will understand, it continues to be unsafe to meet face-to-face. As well, when we can again meet at the Fairfield Centre is uncertain,” said Mensinga. “In fact we may possibly not be able to meet there until early 2021.”

The North Toronto Stamp Club (NTSC) also has two Zoom meetings scheduled for June 11 and July 9, when members will hear presentations on COVID-19-related philately and Italy’s Sorrento region, respectively. For a link to join these meetings, contact NTSC membership chair Klaus Hintz at ntsc.membershipchair@gmail.com.

In Vancouver, the North Shore Numismatic Society (NSNS) will host its third Zoom meeting on June 16 at 7 p.m. In addition to club business, the meeting will include an interactive banknote quiz and 15-lot auction. While an invite will be sent to NSNS members via email a few days before the meeting, non-members are also “very welcome,” according to NSNS President Michael Souza. If anyone would like to attend the next meeting, email Souza at info@northshorenumismaticsociety.org.
