In 1939 Robert “Bobby” Hull was born in Point Anne, Ontario.
After starting to skate at the age of thee, he went to play in the NHL, spending 16 seasons with the Chicago Black Hawks. In 1962 he became the third NHLer to score 50 goals in a season, no mean feat in a league with only six teams at that time, and a feat he achieved five times.
Known for his slap shot, once measured at more than 118 mph, Hull finished his career with the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey League.
Hull is one of several Canadian hockey legends to be commemorated on a stamp, including this 47-cent issue accompanied by a label.
