The Week in Shows (Sept. 3-9)

As we creep back into show season, there are several major events on the philatelic calendar this week.

Today is the final day of the 69th annual British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS) Convention, which is being held in conjunction with Caltapex and jointly hosted by the Calgary BNAPS Regional Group and the Calgary Philatelic Society (CPS) at the Hyatt Regency.

This year’s show theme is the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, and there are a range of exhibits relating to BNA topics as well as worldwide exhibits by CPS members.

In addition to a competitive exhibition, the convention boasts a bourse of more than 15 dealers from various parts of the country. BNAPS will also co-ordinate a variety of meetings of its various study groups as well as other activities such as tours and dinners.

MERRICKVILLE, ONT.

On Sept. 9, the 22nd annual Eastern Ontario Postcard and Ephemera Show will be held at the Merrickville Community Centre on 106 Read St. in Merrickville, Ont. The show will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and feature about 30 dealer tables. Admission and parking are free.

TORONTO, ONT.

Also on Sept. 9, the North Toronto Stamp Club (NTSC) will host its Fall Postage Stamp Bourse at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church in 1585 Yonge St. in downtown Toronto. The show will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and includes 22 dealers and more than 100 sales circuit books including recent issues, more than 100 10-cent books, a members table and door prizes. Admission is free, and parking is available onsite and on nearby streets.

RIVERVIEW, N.B.

Sept. 9 will also see Brunpex 2017 being hosted at the Dan Bohan Family Centre on 5 Fatima Drive in Riverview, N.B. Sponsored by the Fundy Stamp Collectors Club, the show will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and feature several dealer tables as well as auction tables with the auction to take place at 1:30 p.m.

BURNABY, B.C.

Later this week, on Sept. 9-10, the Coin, Stamp and Collectables Show will be hosted by Vancouver’s North Shore Numismatic Society at the Nikkei Centre on 6688 Southoaks Cres. in Burnaby, B.C. The show will be open on Sept. 9 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

With about 40 tables of coins, stamps and other collectables, the show will allow attendees to buy, sell or trade whatever areas of specialization pique their interest. There will be dealers in Canadian coins, world coins, ancient coins, stamps, covers, postcards, medals, tokens,  banknotes and more. Free underground parking is available. Admission is $2 or $3 for both days, but children under the age of 16 are free if accompanied by an adult.

Profits from the show will be donated to local charities.
