The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) is commemorating the 65th anniversary of its New York headquarters with a pane of 10 stamps and se-tenant labels to be issued May 30, during the highly anticipated World Stamp Show in New York City.
The stamps feature stamp-on-stamp designs of UN stamps while the se-tenant labels show interior and exterior of the office. Each stamp has a face value of $1.15 and has “Celebrating 65 Years” written across the top. The pane’s selvage includes the World Stamp Show logo in the upper-right corner and a reproduction of the UN’s “Rampart of Peace” poster by French designer Jean Carlu to the left.
The selvage also features a short history of the UNPA New York headquarters: “The United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) New York office is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year. Established by a U.N. General Assembly resolution in 1950 and subsequently by an agreement with United States Postal authorities in 1951, the first United Nations stamps were issued in US dollar denominations on United Nations Day, 24 October 1951.”
