“Gender inequality is one of the most persistent human rights violations of our time.”
That’s the reasoning behind the latest issue of stamps from the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA), which said the disparities among genders continue to manifest in appalling ways around the world.
HeForShe, a solidarity movement for gender equality developed by UN Women (the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women), was recently commemorated on a series of UNPA stamps. Issued March 8, the stamps measure 32 mm x 41 mm and were printed by Lowe-Martin in sheets of 20. A number of first-day covers, as well as three special cancellations, were also produced for the series.
HeForShe’s goal is to engage men as advocates and agents of change for the achievement of gender equality and women’s rights. The campaign encourages men to speak out and take action against inequalities faced by women and girls. Gender equality is not only a women’s issue but a human rights issue affecting everyone.
