For the first time in two years, collectors in the Greater Toronto Area could be treated to a major stamp and coin show.
Trajan Publishing’s National Postage Stamp & Coin Show is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 11-12 at its usual venue, the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale hotel, in northwestern Mississauga, Ont.
“We look forward to safely bringing everyone back to the bourse for our fall show this September,” said Mike Walsh, Trajan’s managing partner and CSN’s editor, who added provincial regulations – expected to be updated in the coming weeks – will determine how the show is held.
Hosted each spring and fall before COVID-19, the two-day National Show typically includes a 50-dealer combined stamp and coin bourse, a two-session “Premier Auction,” several seminars and thousands of attendees. This fall, organizers are expecting a smaller bourse and no seminar series; however, the auction will be held, as planned, through the online iCollector platform on Sept. 10-11.
‘ROADMAP TO REOPEN’
On July 30, the Ontario government highlighted the next step in its “Roadmap to Reopen,” which will see most of the province’s public health measures eased.
“Upon exiting the roadmap, the vast majority of public health measures, including capacity limits, will be lifted,” according to the media statement issued by the province. “Only a small number of measures will remain in place, including the requirement for passive screening, such as posting a sign, and businesses requiring a safety plan.”
Officials in Ontario, where the Delta variant is the dominant COVID-19 strain, will also continue to require face coverings for indoor public settings such as the National Show.
Dr. Kieran Moore, Ontario’s chief medical officer of health, will continue to evaluate the face-covering requirement “on an ongoing basis,” the province’s statement added.
As of Aug. 11, 82.1 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 72.3 per cent are fully vaccinated.
