After about half a century of serving collectors in southwestern Ontario, the Stratford Stamp Club has decided to shut down its operations.
The club’s members met on Sept. 30 for the dissolution vote. A chapter of both the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and Grand River Valley Philatelic Association (GRVPA), the Stratford club held monthly meetings with presentations, co-ordinated circuit books and organized its popular Mayday Stamp Show each spring for nearly 40 years.
“It’s too bad regarding Stratford,” said GRVPA Vice-President Leigh Hogg. “No younger enthusiasts are coming along. One would think with a retirement community like Stratford, a stamp club would be thriving with ages 60-90.”
