Stamp to honour famous Wait for Me Daddy photo

One of the most famous Canadian photos from the Second World War, called Wait for Me Daddy, was taken on this day in 1940.

The photograph captures the raw emotion of a little boy reaching for one more moment with his father, who is marching off to war.

The photo, taken October 1, 1940 in New Westminster, B.C., came to symbolize the sacrifices families made for the war effort.

Canada Post is releasing a stamp to honour this famous picture. According to Canada Post, the stamp issue will coincide with the unveiling of a statue in New Westminster on October 4, 2014, to honour the photo.

The website, www.waitfordaddy.ca, also reveals that a new $2 circulating coin with the image of the famous photograph, will also be released during the New Westminister celebrations. As of press time, details on the new coin release have not been released by the Royal Canadian Mint.
