Alex Issajenko of Amis Stamps and Coins in downtown Toronto died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 4. He was 83.
Alex began collecting stamps at an early age before becoming interested in world coins and their histories. In 1978, this passion led him to open his first storefront. For more than 40 years and through four store locations (all in Toronto’s High Park area), Alex amassed an extensive inventory of world stamps, coins, paper money, covers and other interesting collectibles.
Alex attended many shows, including the National Postage Stamp and Coin Show.
Alex was a member of the Canadian Stamp Dealers’ Association.
Predeceased by his parents Galina (Unkowsky) and Gregory. Alex leaves behind his wife Molly, loving papa of Tony (Connie), Peter, and Katia (Kieran). Cherished dedushka of Sasha, Natasha, Dima, Sophia, Luke, Misha, and Kaya.
A prayer service took place at Toronto’s Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church,on May 8 and a funeral liturgy and service followed on May 9. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery, Etobicoke.
