With COVID-19 continuing to run its course, the Single-Frame Champion of Champions competition will be held online this year.
Hosted by the American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors (AAPE), the competition determines the top single-frame Grand Award-winning exhibit from the nearly 40 World Series of Philately (WSP) shows held in Canada and the United States during the previous year. It was originally slated to be held this November at Chicagopex, which was cancelled due to the pandemic.
According to AAPE President Mike Ley, the exhibits will be posted on the AAPE website – aape.org – by Nov. 8.
“They will be judged by the same jury that would have judged at Chicagopex, and the winner will be announced Nov. 21,” said Ley. Typically only seen by judges, each exhibit’s synopsis will also be shown. “These top-award-winning exhibits will provide enjoyable and educational opportunities for other exhibitors as well as those contemplating exhibiting,” added Ley.
It will mark the first time a major North American philatelic exhibiting award is determined in a virtual competition.
