Chicagopex 2017, the annual convention of the Chicago Philatelic Society (CPS), will feature three book signings among its special events at the show, which will be held Nov. 17-19 at the Westin Chicago Northwest on 400 Park Blvd. in Itasca, Ill.

There is one book signing and presentation each day of the show. They include:

Copies of the books will also be available for sale.

In addition to the three book signings, there will be 290 frames of material on display with something of interest for all attendees. This year also marks the 51st anniversary of the philatelic literature competition. Chicagopex judges also evaluate electronic literature such as websites, blogs and online articles.

The show bourse will feature 75 dealers from the U.S. and Europe offering a vast array of material to interest everyone. The U.S. Postal Service and the U.N. Postal Administration will also be in attendance. The show will also include a youth booth with free stamps and supplies.

TWO CONVENING SOCIETIES

The annual philatelic exhibition, celebrating 131 years of the CPS, features two convening societies—the Society of Israel Philatelists and the British Caribbean Philatelic Study Group. These groups will present special exhibits of stamps and postal history as well as hold meetings open to the public.

The following groups are also meeting at the show (all free and open to the public):

  • the CPS (Saturday);
  • the Germany Philatelic Society Chapter #5 (Saturday);
  • the Illinois Postal History Society (Sunday); and
  • the North Shore Philatelic Society (Sunday).

Many of these groups feature expert guest speakers giving talks open to the public. The full schedule will appear in the show program, which will be available at the hospitality desk in the hotel’s atrium. It’s also available on the show website.

525th ANNIVERSARY OF COLUMBUS’ SAILING

This year’s show theme is “Celebrating the 525th Anniversary of Columbus’ Sailing.” Special souvenir show cachets and cancellation will be available for all three days of the show. There will also be an exhibit of material from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, which took place in Chicago.

Attendees are asked to contact the hotel to make reservations and to mention Chicagopex for the special room rate. The show will be open on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

Saturday night will also feature a catered awards banquet. Tickets must be purchased in advance ($60 each) and dress is business casual. Please see the website for the reservation form. Special diets can be accommodated upon request.
