RPSC warns of email scam

The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada has issued a notice regarding its presidential email account.

“If you receive an email from Ed Kroft appearing to come from president@rpsc.org, delete it. It is spam,” warns the statement. “The most recent e-mail had as its subject, Attention Required!, and was worded: XXXX, Are you available? I need you to complete a transaction to a vendor on behalf of the Board, Your reimbursement is guaranty.”

RPSC webmaster Robin Harris added the RPSC president’s email account is a forwarding email only, so any emails sent to that address are automatically forwarded to Kroft’s personal account. No emails are sent from president@rpsc.org.

“In other words, an e-mail that appears to come from that account is not  coming from the account as that account does not exist,” reads the statement. “Someone has figured out how to make an e-mail appear to come from president@rpsc.org.”

Other forwarding e-mails include vp1@rpsc.orgtreasurer@rpsc.orgwebmaster@rpsc.orgmanager@rpsc.org.

The entire RPSC website as well as the email account info@rpsc.org are “secure,” according to the society.
