With many of Canada’s accredited philatelic judges reaching retirement, the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) has put a call out for people to sign on as apprentices.
“The issue we face is we need new judges because judges are retiring and moving to emeritus status or they aren’t able to travel, so we need new blood in the judging program,” said Joel Wiener, the head of the RPSC’s judging program, who added the lack of in-person exhibitions throughout the pandemic hindered the apprentice pipeline.
“The last couple of years were difficult with only virtual shows and virtual judges. Dealing with all the communication between the judges was not the easiest, but it all worked.” Wiener, who also served as CAPEX 22’s commissioner general, welcomed the return of in-person national shows, the first of which took place in April with Orapex.
