The clock is ticking.
After announcing our third annual Cover Contest this March (“Get your covers ready,” CSN Vol. 44 #23), we’ve received only a small handful of submissions.
But we’ve all had a couple of chaotic months, so now’s a good time for a friendly reminder: to participate in this year’s Cover Contest, your submissions must be mailed to CSN by Sept. 25, complete with a postmark to prove the deadline date was met.
Our new mailing address, which you’ll read more about in the latest issue of CSN (Vol. 45 #4) is PO Box 25009 Rose City RO, Welland, ON L3B 5V0.
Covers already mailed to CSN’s previous office, 459 Prince Charles Dr. S. in Welland, will still be able to participate.
SIX MONETARY PRIZES
The fun competition, which includes six prizes – nearly double what was handed out last year – is open to both organizations and individual collectors.
All philatelic groups from Canada and abroad are encouraged to participate in the “club” category, and for the second year in a row, an “individual” category is also open to collectors from around the world.
The cover designs can promote a club or organization, an individual hobby or area of specialization, or the month-long philatelic celebration of National Stamp Collecting Month, which takes place every October (albeit to lacklustre fanfare). And if you’re full of ideas, don’t worry—both clubs and collectors can submit more than one design.
After the Sept. 25 submission deadline, all entries will be posted on our website, canadianstampnews.com, on Oct. 1. People around the world will then be invited to vote throughout October for their three favourite submissions from both categories.
On Nov. 1, CSN will announce the covers that received the most votes in both categories, and the top three winners will receive $100, $50 and $25, respectively.
JOIN THE FUN
Even if you wouldn’t describe yourself as an “artist” or a “designer,” you likely have some extra time on your hands – and a yearning for something philatelic to do – during the pandemic. Why not throw your hat in the ring for a fun competition with some philatelic friends from around the world?
I’m looking forward to seeing more colourful covers coming in the mail over the next few months.
