The Canadian National Philatelic Exhibition (Canpex) returns this weekend in London, Ont., with a special focus on the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
Hosted by the London-Middlesex Stamp Club, Canpex 2024 will take place on Oct. 19-20 at the Hellenic Community Centre, offering philatelists a weekend filled with exhibits, social connections, and opportunities to explore the world of stamps.
Co-chair John Sheffield notes that Canpex, first held in 2016, has grown into one of Canada’s premier national-level exhibitions and stamp marketplaces. Organized by volunteers from Southern Ontario stamp clubs and philatelic societies, Canpex is sanctioned by The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and is part of the American Philatelic Society’s prestigious “World Series of Philately.”
This year’s theme honours the RCAF and its historical connection to London, Ont., through the former Crumlin Station, established in 1940. The station, now known as London International Airport, played a key role in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, training over 4,400 airmen before transitioning to post-war RCAF use.
Several exhibits have already been entered for the show, which will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20. Admission and parking are free, and a lunch counter will be available for attendees.
The show will feature more than 20 dealers offering stamps and postal history for sale, competitive exhibits, and a lively social atmosphere. The weekend will also include an awards reception, giving collectors, exhibitors, and dealers a chance to connect after the judging. Tickets for the reception and additional event details are available on the Canpex website, canpex.ca.
Don’t miss the chance to celebrate philately and Stamp Collecting Month at one of Canada’s most anticipated stamp events of the year. Held at the Hellenic Community Centre, 133 Southdale Rd. West, London, Ont., more information on the show details are available at canpex.ca.
