Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) recently issued a series of stamps commemorating South East Asian (SEA) Games 2017, the 29th SEA Games hosted by the country.
The series, which was issued on Aug. 21, features four designs worth 60 sen each and consists of the SEA Games 2017 official mascot “RIMAU”; the event’s official logo “Bangkit Bersama”; Malaysia’s iconic game badminton; and the torch run.
“I think this is a good opportunity for stamp collectors as it is not every year that Malaysia becomes the host country for the SEA Games,” said Deputy Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Jailani Johari, who unveiled the stamps at a press conference earlier this year. “The last time Malaysia became the host country for the SEA Games was in the year 2001.”
“I also like to suggest Pos Malaysia Berhad issue a special series of stamps if Malaysia happen to be the overall champions; similar to what we did for the last Paralympic Games. I believe this will definitely motivate all of our athletes,” he added.
FIRST-DAY COVERS
Other related items include a first-day cover and a philatelic folder. For each of the 60-sen stamps, there were 200,000 pieces issued. A total of 32,000 first-day covers and 1,800 folders we also issued.
