The Empire State Postal History Society (ESPHS) has named Jeff Stage, of Syracuse, N.Y., as the new editor of its biannual journal, Excelsior!
Stage’s duties begin with the journal’s September 2020 edition. He replaces David Williams, of Indiana, who served as editor for nearly 14 years.
Stage previously worked with the American Philatelic Society (APS) as an editorial associate, editing and writing for the society’s monthly journal, The American Philatelist, plus the quarterly Philatelic Literature Review published by the American Philatelic Research Library.
Before joining the APS, he worked for nearly 36 years as a reporter and editor for two Syracuse dailies, the Herald-Journal and the Post-Standard.
In 2013, he also wrote and self-published a contemporary mystery novel, Chasing Jenny, based on the still-unsolved 1955 theft of a block of four Inverted Jenny stamps.
The ESPHS aims to advance the knowledge of the New York state postal history through educational and historical research. In addition to Excelsior!, the society also publishes a quarterly bulletin plus several online resources, including a research catalogue, through its website.
