Longley Auctions’ Sale #30 showcases worldwide, Commonwealth collections

Longley Auctions’ Sale #30 on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, features an impressive selection of worldwide and Commonwealth collections, with auctioneer Bill Longley emphasizing the sale’s strength in key areas.

“The sale is particularly strong in worldwide and Commonwealth collections, including Bhutan, Cyprus, France, Greenland, Haiti, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and the U.S.,” said Longley. “There is more than $100,000 in modern mint face value from Canada, the U.S., Great Britain, and the United Nations, the proceeds of which are being donated to charity from the collector’s estate.”

The auction includes a diverse range of material, from individual rarities to large, intact collections. Specialized offerings include notable collections from Italy, Hong Kong, Mexico, Ireland, and New Zealand. Canadian material is prominently featured, with highlights such as Lady Boat covers, Mufti issue stamps, and War issue stamps, all expected to draw strong interest. Revenue and fiscal stamps are another key component of the sale, with a highly specialized selection that includes revenues, revenue-stamped paper, duck stamps, Canal Zone material, and U.S. possessions.

Among the more intriguing lots:

  • Lot 68: A mint and used three-cent Mufti (#232 var) featuring a freak overprint — an unusual and striking variety from the George VI era.
  • Lot 433 – A used U.S. Revenue #R133, the $25 black and blue issue, a sought-after high-value revenue stamp carrying a catalogue value of $850 USD.
