A long-time philatelic judge based south of the border but with a presence at major shows in Canada has decided to hang up his pen and clipboard.
Bill Schultz, of West Chester, Pa., announced his retirement on Oct. 25 following Napex, the largest east-coast stamp show, held on Oct. 22-24 in McLean, Va.
“Thanks so much for your kindness & generosity in sharing with me your philatelic knowledge & enthusiasm,” Schultz, who has also judged at several Canadian national-level shows, wrote in an email to his fellow Napex judges. “It was very meaningful to me as it was my final judging assignment.”
His retirement comes after more than 17 years “of fun & sometimes work,” he added.
Earlier this year, Schultz received the American Philatelic Society’s Ernest A. Kehr Award for “enduring contributions that help guarantee the future of the hobby,” according to his citation.
