A documentary highlighting the wonderful—and “often eccentric”—world of philately premiered on last month during Monacophil 2017.
Freaks & Errors: A Rare Collection is “a documentary film that reveals the rarely seen, often eccentric and surprisingly vibrant world of stamp collecting.” The film includes interviews with columnist and author Neil Steinberg; footwear guru Stuart Weitzman; bond king William H. Gross; and an enthusiastic collection of lifelong stamp hobbyists, each of who offers insightful commentary on “how we’re all searching for ways to control our world, make order out of chaos, connect with one another and express ourselves through our hobbies.”
OPENING NIGHT
“It was a little nerve wracking 10 minutes before showtime, with only about 9 seats filled, I was about to come to terms with disappointment,” reads a statement published on the film’s website following the Dec. 2 premiere.
“Then, like a magical mob of confidence, people started to pour in. By the time the lights dimmed, it was standing room only for the first public viewing of the film! I held my breathe until I heard the first chuckle, but by the time the credits rolled I was even happier that no one left. Big thanks to the MonacoPhil organization for making this happen!”
