First non-European journal wins award

The Collectors Club Philatelist (CCP), the bimonthly journal of New York’s Collectors Club, has won the 2023 European Philatelic Press Award, marking the first time a non-European publication has received the annual honour. Edited by U.S. philatelist Wayne Youngblood, of Prairie du Sac, Wisc., the CCP marked its centennial last year. The journal publishes writers from around the world and covers a variety of subjects with both news and commentary.

Its editor, a lifelong collector, has nearly four decades of professional philatelic experience. Youngblood has been an American Philatelic Society member for about half a century, as well as serving nearly a decade on its board, and he has served as an expert with the American Philatelic Expertizing Service since 1990.

“This award is intended to distinguish a magazine of a high philatelic standard with a wide European circulation,” said Jean Voruz, the president of the European Academy of Philately, which manages the honour. “Please accept my deep congratulations on behalf of the European Academy Board for this well-deserved election. This is the first time that a non-European journal has been awarded this distinction in its 20-year history.”

Voruz hopes to present the award in person to Youngblood or another Collectors Club representative at a future show.
