Canada’s first national-level show of 2020 – one of five slated to be held throughout the year – is coming to Edmonton this March in celebration of the centennial of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
To be held March 28-29, the Edmonton Spring National Stamp Show will feature a special 16-frame display of RCMP-themed artifacts, including postcards, first-flight covers, stereo-views, badges, medals, crests, miniature soldiers, multi-coloured tins, comics, paper ephemera and more. Provided by an anonymous Alberta collector, the material was collected over half a century but has never been publicly displayed.
Other Canadian national shows in 2020 include:
- Orapex in Ottawa on May 2-3;
- Royal*2020*Royale in Fredericton, N.B., on June 19-21;
- the Postal History Society of Canada Symposium in Hamilton, Ont., on July 15-19; and
- Canpex on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
Novapex, which is hosted by the Nova Scotia Stamp Club each September, was also slated to be a national show this year (it alternates yearly between regional and national status); however, the club is instead hosting BNAPEX 2020 on Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
