The American Topical Association (ATA) will host a three-session workshop on exhibiting picture postcards this February.
The weekly workshop will be held on consecutive Mondays – Feb. 6, Feb. 13 and Feb. 20 – beginning at 7 p.m. (ET) via Zoom. ATA President Dawn Hamman, a multi-award-winning postcard exhibitor, will host the workshop.
The opening session, “Why Postcards Matter,” will explore the history of early 20th-century postcards as an important part of philatelic research. Session two, “Steps to Telling Your Story,” will discuss non-philatelic storylines in an exhibit, including its title and introduction section. Hamman, who has earned gold and large gold awards for her postcard exhibits, will also share tips about organizing an exhibit. Session three, “Resources for Collecting and Documenting Your Postcards,” will detail the documentation of picture postcard history and highlight available resources for describing an exhibit’s various elements.
Participants will receive reference guides, a digital book on postcards and an extensive bibliography to help in developing, researching and assembling a postcard exhibit. The workshop will cost $25 for ATA members and $45 for non-members. To register, visit americantopical.org.
