CAPEX 22 exhibit application deadline just four weeks away

The CAPEX 22 exhibit application deadline is Nov. 30.

The exhibition will feature 400 single-frame exhibits plus a separate class for literature exhibits. The entire application process, including uploading title and synopsis pages, is done on the CAPEX 22 website, capex22.org, which is available in both English and French.

For single-frame entries, exhibits awarded at least 75 points (a vermeil medal) at World Series of Philately shows since Jan. 1, 2015, or at national-level virtual exhibitions since Jan. 1, 2020, are eligible to apply.

The single-frame exhibits may be from any of the more than 15 recognized Fédération Internationale de Philatélie (FIP) classes, including:

  • aerophilately;
  • astrophilately;
  • maximaphily;
  • modern philately;
  • open philately;
  • philatelic literature;
  • picture postcards;
  • postal history;
  • postal stationery;
  • revenue;
  • thematic philately;
  • traditional philately; and
  • youth philately.

The 400 single-frame exhibits at CAPEX 22 will exceed the number of single-frame exhibits that competed at all FIP shows in the past five years.

For the literature class, exhibitors can submit their print or digital philatelic books and research papers published since Jan. 1, 2017, and their print or digital journals and periodicals since Jan. 1, 2020. Exhibits that competed at exhibitions with patronage from the Fédération Internationale de Philatélie, Federación Interamericana de Filatelia, Federation of European Philatelic Associations and Federation of Inter-Asian Philately are also eligible to apply.

All CAPEX 22 exhibit applications are completed online via capex22.org.

FIFTH CAPEX SINCE ’51

Canada’s fifth international philatelic exhibition, CAPEX 22 will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) in the heart of Toronto’s downtown entertainment district on June 9-12.

Each of the previous four CAPEX shows was also held in Toronto; however, next year’s event will be the world’s first International One-Frame Stamp Championship Exhibition.

At the previous CAPEX in 1996, there were no one-frame exhibits, which the FIP introduced as an experimental class in 2001.

CAPEX 22 will also be the third international philatelic exhibition held at the MTCC, which also played host to CAPEX in 1996 and 1987, “and people loved the location,” according to David McLaughlin, the chair of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada’s international liaison committee.

“The Convention Centre downtown is a great, great location right in the heart of the entertainment district and just steps away from the CN Tower, Rogers Centre, Hockey Hall of Fame and many other attractions.”

The first two CAPEX shows – in 1951 and 1978 – were held at the Automotive Building (now Beanfield Centre) at Exhibition Place.

CSN is a partner-level sponsor of CAPEX 22.
