Thirteen Canadian exhibits competed at Europhil-SPM 2023 in St. Pierre & Miquelon, a French archipelago with about 6,000 inhabitants off the coast of Newfoundland, on June 22-25.
Canadian commissioner Ingo Nessel reported officials broadcast the palmares live on local TV “with a series of multimedia features, including a gallery of original artwork for contemporary St. Pierre stamps, live musical interludes and words of support by the mayor.” The Canadian exhibits stood up among 39 competitive exhibits plus five more in the court of honour.
Prolific local exhibitor Jean-Jacques Tillard, of St. Pierre & Miquelon, won the Grand Prix North America for his exhibit, “The Fox of 1952 – The First Stamps Issued for Air Mail Rates,” which earned 95 points.
Exhibitor Serge Kahn, of France, won the Grand Prix Europe for his exhibit, “Dumont D’Urville Helps Reveal Antarctica.”
