Stamp enthusiasts and collectors alike will be taken on a captivating journey into the world of Canadian cartophilately, set to unravel on April 8 during the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada’s (RPSC) Stamp Talks. This webinar will delve deeper into the realm of Canadian stamps, exploring a plethora of captivating maps beyond the iconic 1898 map stamps.
Sponsored by Longley Auctions, the event is slated to commence at 7 p.m. EDT. The virtual talk will shed light on the many maps featured on Canadian stamps. Moreover, the discussion will extend to other philatelic treasures such as souvenir sheets, booklet panes, semi-official airmails, and a myriad of other collectibles, totaling approximately 50 examples. Among these examples lie some uncatalogued varieties, adding an element of intrigue and exclusivity to the discourse.
The comprehensive presentation will draw from a complete list of 255 known items, offering attendees a thorough exploration of Canadian cartophilately. Leading the charge into this captivating realm is Douglas Hill, who rekindled his passion for stamp collecting in 2020. His three Canadian collections include cartophilately, philatelic firsts, illustrated permits, and a worldwide assortment of airmail labels.
A member of the RPSC and the British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS), Hill actively contributes to stamp clubs in West Toronto and Burlington. Hill’s expertise is underscored by his previous Royal Philatelic presentations, which include “Collecting Modern Canadian Beaver Stamps” and an intermediate-level tutorial titled “An Introduction to Canadian Stamp Colours.”
