Canada Post today issued its first commemorative envelope of the year.
The envelope commemorates the Concordia University of Edmonton (formerly the Concordia University College of Alberta), which is celebrating its centennial this year. The university is featured on the Picture Postage indicium and the all-over cachet in the cover’s background. The indicium is cancelled by a March 7, 2021-dated pictorial postmark featuring the school’s new logo, adopted in 2010. The bilingual phrases “A CENTURY / OF PROMISE” and “100 ANS / D’ESPOIR” are also shown in the centre.
“Our institutional mission is to make a difference,” said Dr. Valerie Henitiuk, the school’s vice-president of academic and provost, after announcing its first doctoral program this February. “This first doctorate is the product of hard work and contributions from many stakeholders, and it represents a new horizon for CUE and an inspiring way to kick off our next century.”
Since its 1921 founding, the publicly funded private university located in the Alberta capital has evolved into “one of Canada’s pre-eminent small universities known for its diversity and academic excellence,” according to Canada Post.
The Concordia envelope is Canada Post’s first commemorative envelope since 2019, when it issued three of them.
