Canada Post board of directors appoints Jessica McDonald as interim president, CEO

The Canada Post board of directors announced Jessica McDonald, board chair, will be serving as president and CEO of the Crown corporation on an interim basis.

The appointment will begin on Monday, April 2, following the planned departure of outgoing President and CEO Deepak Chopra, who announced his plans to step down last August.

A comprehensive and open process to find a new, permanent Canada Post President and CEO is “well under way,” according to a statement issued today by Canada Post. “The Canada Post Board of Directors is working in collaboration with the Government of Canada to find a candidate well-positioned to lead the Corporation and guide the implementation of the government’s recently announced vision.”

McDonald was appointed chair of the Canada Post board of directors last December. She has extensive experience in senior public sector management from a career spanning more than 25 years. Most recently, she served as president and CEO of BC Hydro, one of Canada’s largest energy suppliers. Prior to this she held many senior positions in the British Columbia government, including head of the province’s public service.
