MuchMusic and MusiquePlus, the iconic television stations that revolutionized how Canadians experienced music, are being celebrated with a new stamp set by Canada Post.
These trailblazing channels transformed music culture by pioneering the music video format, allowing fans to see their favourite artists in action and shaping a generation of music enthusiasts across Canada.
“These channels weren’t just about music — they were cultural touchstones,” stated Canada Post. “They gave Canadian and international artists a platform to connect with fans in ways that had never been done before, forever changing the way we engage with music.”

The colourful stamp illustration features the iconic MusiquePlus building in Montréal, seen from the perspective of the enthusiastic crowd that often gathered outside to watch the action unfold.
Launched in August 1984, MuchMusic quickly became one of Canada’s first specialty cable channels, eventually expanding to reach over five million households. In 1986, MusiquePlus hit the airwaves in Montréal, offering Francophone artists a powerful platform to stand alongside international superstars. Both channels were essential for rising Canadian talents like Alanis Morissette, Kashtin, Les Colocs, and Blue Rodeo, who became household names thanks to their innovative and engaging programming.
The stamp designs showcase the vibrant, bustling scenes outside the iconic buildings that housed MuchMusic in Toronto and MusiquePlus in Montréal. Fans would often gather there, hoping to catch live performances by homegrown stars like Jean Leloup, Mitsou, and Roch Voisine, or international legends like David Bowie and Duran Duran. These lively moments, filled with excitement and anticipation, are beautifully captured in the stamp illustrations.
Printed by Lowe-Martin, the stamp issue includes a booklet of eight Permanent domestic-rate stamps and two Official First-Day Covers.
MuchMusic and MusiquePlus weren’t just music stations—they were the soundtrack to a generation. The new stamps, unveiled in Toronto and Montréal, celebrate the channels’ enduring influence on Canadian pop culture and their role in elevating music as both a visual and auditory experience.
“Canada Post has a proud tradition of commemorating Canada’s musical legacy,” the postal service added. “From Sarah McLachlan to Leonard Cohen, k.d. lang, and The Tragically Hip, our stamps continue to honour the artists who have shaped our nation’s culture.”
These special-edition stamps are expected to be highly sought after by collectors of both philatelic items and pop culture memorabilia. Whether you’re a fan of Canadian music history or a stamp collector, these vibrant designs are a nostalgic celebration of an era that defined the Canadian music scene.
