The Barrie District Stamp Club (BDSC) welcomed about 75 people to the Stroud Innisfil Community Centre this October for its 60th annual show.
Founded in 1960, three years before the club’s first annual show, the BDSC hosted its latest event with eight dealers from across the province plus several competitive exhibits evaluated by an accredited judge from the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC).
“These collections required hours of research, typesetting and visual display within large picture-type frames,” according to a statement issued by the BDSC.
The club’s members, as well as other collectors with the nearby Owen Sound Stamp Club, provided the exhibits for the show with subjects ranging from the Group of Seven to calla lily definitives, fancy cancellations and late Canadian F1 driver Gilles Villeneuve.
The exhibits each received ribbons of merit based on points with BDSC member Rob Clarke winning the Michael Millar Novice Award for his Villeneuve exhibit.
Ellen Millar, the daughter of BDSC co-founder Michael Millar, presented the award at the Oct. 21 show.
Chapter #148 of the RPSC, the Barrie club meets on the second Thursday of each month from September to June, and everyone is welcome to attend.
