Barbados honoured centenarians in 27-stamp collection

The Barbados Postal Service has honoured the 100-year-old citizens of the Caribbean island country with a 27-stamp collection entitled “Centenarians of Barbados.”

The largest issue ever released by the island’s postal service, the collection included 20 singles, a seven-stamp souvenir sheet and a first-day cover. The honourees – some of who have since died and others who are still alive – have made outstanding contributions to Barbados. While most of the stamps feature centenarians, some depict “semi-super centenarians,” who are between the ages of 105 and 109, and “super centenarians,” who are 110 years old or older.

Issued in December 2016, the limited-edition stamps – with a denomination of 65 cents – were previously available for three months at Barbados’ post offices; however, they have since sold out. Some examples are available for purchase on eBay.
