B.C. Ogopogo dons face mask

The Kelowna and District Stamp Club – winner of the 2018 CSN Cover Contest – has updated its Ogopogo-themed Picture Postage stamp with a new pandemic-worthy design.

“I saw on social media that a concerned citizen provided our Ogopogo statue with face protection. One can never be too careful,” said stamp collector and artist Peter Lepold, who’s also the Kelowna club’s publicity chair.

Measuring more than two metres tall and four metres long, the cheerful Ogopogo statue is located near the city’s waterfront and was featured on the Picture Postage stamp franked to the club’s award-winning cover in 2018.

The Ogopogo statue in Kelowna, B.C., is dressed with a medical face mask.

“With many people being sick and dying, we’re hoping that the protected Ogopogo will create some smiles,” said Lepold, who was expecting to receive his new Picture Postage stamp – featuring the iconic lake monster with a face mask – after Lowe-Martin fulfilled its delayed orders in late April.
