Auction preview: only known Hastings, B.C. cancel up for auction

This Saturday, the only known cover featuring a Hastings, B.C. cancellation is being offered in All Nations‘ weekly auction.

Lot 93 includes two Hastings, B.C. cancels made at Hastings Post Office (known as the Burrard Inlet Post Office until 1897) on a cover sent in 1899. The cover sits on page 37 of famed philatelist Gerald Wellburn’s Historic Vancouver album. The lot also includes a photograph, newspaper clipping and notes transcribed by Wellburn.

On July 2, in All Nations Stamp and Coin Auction #1066, the entire page is estimated to cross the block at $100.

According to auctioneer and All Nations owner Brian Grant Duff, Wellburn’s Historic Vancouver album is 88 pages of “postal history, postcards, notes on history, documents, drawings and diverse ephemera… all with the larger-than-life characters from the early story of Vancouver.” It’s being offered throughout the year in All Nations’ weekly auctions.
