The YPLF provides its fellows with a year-long experience travelling to three APS national shows. Along the way, there are opportunities to learn from experienced collectors, exhibitors, writers and dealers.
All young philatelists between the ages of 16 and 24 are eligible to apply. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age but may not be older than 24 as of Aug. 1 of the application year. Activities begin in August of the application year and run through the following August.
Applications for the 2018 class are due by May 15.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply, complete an application form, write an essay and obtain two letters of recommendation. All application materials must be postmarked by May 15 and should be sent to the American Philatelic Society at 100 Match Factory Pl. in Bellefonte, Penn.

All YPLF mentors are experienced dealers, exhibitors or authors and graciously volunteer their time to support a young collector for an entire year. Mentors serve as a philatelic guide for one fellow, helping him or her to achieve their goals and required assignments.
Following a detailed application process, mentors are chosen based on their knowledge of and commitment to the hobby as well as their willingness to assist young people in succeeding in philately.

Travel, lodging, and meal expenses for each fellow are paid for by the APS to allow fellows to attend the program at no cost to them. A meal stipend is provided for an accompanying parent or guardian (for fellows who are not yet 18 years old). Members of the APS donate funds to the YPLF program and without their support, the program would not be possible.
