The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada (RPSC) held a moment of silence for its recently deceased members at the national organization’s annual general meeting (AGM) on June 11.
Hosted at CAPEX 22, the RPSC meeting saw then-president Ed Kroft honour nine members who died since the previous AGM, held online last June.
Before observing a moment of silence, Kroft read aloud the names of Anthony Chila, of Athens, Ohio; Walter Foltz, of Calgary, Alta.; Robert Galbraith, of Nepean, Ont.; Robert Haslewood, of Montréal, Qué.; George McManus, of Ottawa, Ont.; Michael Madesker, of Thornhill, Ont.; R.G. Norwood, of Calgary, Alta.; Madlyn Phillips, of Fredericton, N.B.; and Jakob Treier, of Amherstview, Ont.
An RPSC Fellow since 1979, Madesker stood as the society’s Senior Fellow from 2014 until his death on Dec. 27 at age 96. He was also Canada’s only living Roll of Distinguished Philatelists (RDP) signatory; however, in February, less than two months after Madesker died, Toronto philatelist Charles Verge added his name to the RDP.
