The Prairie Beaver Regional Group, one of more than a dozen British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS) regional groups, hosted a day-long get-together this May.
Twelve members attended the May 27 event, which included the preparation of a one-frame exhibit by competing teams, presentations by Ralph Poore and Jeff Switt, a clothesline exhibit plus book reviews.
“The major activity of the morning was an exercise to develop a one-frame exhibit of George Dresser’s 10 cents Edward covers. Three teams were formed from the 12 members present and given about two hours to develop the exhibit. Each team described the proposed exhibit,” reads a review posted on the BNAPS website. “Two teams had national APS (American Philatelic Society) judges, and the third had a BNAPS judge. Two teams focused on a rate exhibit, and the third focused on routes. Extensive discussion centered around whether a 10 cents stamp, used primarily for two UPU rates (double letter and a registered letter), was sufficient for a viable one-frame exhibit. The route exhibit showed promise, although the APS judges felt the approach would be better with the basic five cents stamp instead. The activity was worthwhile in exploring the new APS open-ended rules on exhibits.”
The Prairie Beaver Regional Group meets twice yearly to exchange information about the stamps and postal history of British North America. The meetings feature presentations by group members about their philatelic quests and discoveries, swap-buy-sell-trade sessions and clothesline exhibits.
